The Swiss harpsichordist, conductor and composer, Jörg Ewald Dähler, is the son of Karl Walter Dähler (1903-1986), which worked as minister in Eggiwil and then in Langnau from 1936 to 1961, and later was a seminar-teacher at Hofwil. Jörg Ewald himself attended school in Langnau (Emmental), teacher training in Hofwil (Berne) and received his teaching diploma in piano from the Berne Conservatory. He also studied harpsichord in Freiburg im Breisgau.
Jörg Ewald Dähler was laureate in Munich in 1963. Since 1962 had appointed positions teaching harpsichord, thorough bass, chamber music and improvisation at the Konservatorium Bern. Since 1988 he trained in addition choir directing. He has also taught at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis (created by Paul Sacher). In 1965 he founded the ‘Berner Rathauskonzerte’ held at Berner Rathaus, Krone Bätterkinden and Schloss Hindelbank and directed this until 1998. In these concerts he himself appeared regularly alone or as partner of other musicians. In 1968 he co-founded the Claves-Verlag. Since 1974 he has been director of the Bern Chamber Choir, with which he performed regularly fastidious works of the sacred choir music. 1987 Dähler's Lukas-Passion was played in the audience great expectation at the Bern Münster.
Gradually Jörg Ewald Dähler has increased his appearances as a guest conductor. For many years he has been a guest conductor. He has conducted regularly each year big symphonic works in Japan, appeared at the Japanese Choir-Festival and recorded for the Japanese label Tonträger. In France he is engaged regularly as choir and/or an orchestra conductor; whereby in addition, he takes part in chamber music concerts whenever possible. World-wide concert tours (Europe, Japan, Argentine) and master-classes as well as numerous engagements at various festivals, radio, TV and audio recordings has strengthened his international fame.
Jörg Ewald Dähler has received numerous prizes, such as ARD-Preis, München, and the Jürg Stucki-Preis. In 1983 he won the culture prize offered by the canton of Berne and in 1989 the Externe Medaille of the Burgergemeinde in Berne for services to the culture life of Berne. He is also a talented draughtsman and illustrated two collections of narrations of his father in Berne-German dialect: Momou |
