Founded in 1981, Camerata Vocale Daejeon, showing its outstanding musicality and creative performances, has been one of the best choirs in Korea. The choir marked special moments in its past careers, through which made a good leap forward to the world-level choir. One of the moments was when invited to perform at Bach International Choral Festival (2005), introducing its music into international audiences. Another one was a registration in the British & International Music Yearbook 2007.
In 2007, the choir invited Maestro Winfried Toll, one of the most respected choral conductors, and opened an exciting musical journey leading the Korean choral history into a higher level. With him, it performed J.S. Bach in 2008 and with authentic instruments in 2009, which provided a breath of fresh air to Korean choral music. The choir since then, has led the field of Korean choir music performing high quality repertoires: C. Monteverdi, J. Haydn, J.S. Bach, George Frideric Handel, Felix Mendelssohn, G. Puccini and Requiems by many composers.
The choir’s passionate challenges in music continued even after, extending its area outside Daejeon. Starting from 2010’s G.F. Handel's performed in Seoul to 2019’s G. Puccini , its performances enamored the aficionados. In 2014, as a result, the choir won the grand prize at the 1st Grand Art Award of orchestral music department chosen by Seoul Art Center. Especially in 2013, the choir was invited to perform Isang Yun’s at TongYoung international music festival. In 2014, the choir was also invited to perform at Menuhin Festival in Switzerland and participated in tour concert Germany, drawing out standing ovation from European audience by performing Rossini’s and other repertoires, showing the beauty of a cappella. In 2019, as one of the best choirs in Korea, it went out on Europe tour, performing in Germany, Slovakia, Serbia, and Croatia, widely advertising the art of Korea. It also challenged a new area of recording by releasing G.F. Handel’s in 2010, and F. Martin’s in 2013 from Sony Label.
In 2021 the Camerata Vocale Daejeon celebrates its 40th anniversary. The choir presents various repertories including J.S. Bach, L.v. Beethoven and G.F. Handel , getting ready to give a big impression to audiences through special concerts in Seoul and Tongyeong. |
