The Argentinean pianist and conductor, Alfredo Corral, graduated from the National Music Conservatory “Carlos López Buchardo” with the degree of Senior Music Teacher and was awarded the first prize and medal to the highest score in his class. He studied piano with Masters Juan Carlos Arabián and Perla Brúgola. In 1977 he received an award in the “Contest for Young Pianists” sponsored by the Jrimián Educational Foundation (“Fundación Educacional Jrimián”). In Argentina, he played an active role in various courses given by famous Masters, among them: Walter Blankenheim, Ewa Bukojemska, Rosalyn Tureck and Gerhard Oppitz (During the last two courses mentioned, “Argentine Music Festivals” selected him and awarded him a scholarship).
Alfredo Corral has performed both solo and chamber music at important auditoriums and concert halls in Buenos Aires (Colón Theater, Main Lecture Hall of the School of Law, Enrique Muño Hall, etc.), as well as in other areas of the country: La Plata (Podestá Coliseum, Municipality’s Golden Hall), Córdoba (Rivera Indarte Theater), Miramar, Necochea, Catamarca, Rosario, Bariloche, Mendoza, as well as at several radio stations. Abroad, he has performed in Spain (Madrid, Alcalá de Henares and Guadalajara), Italy (Bologna, Sabudia, Sassari), Switzerland (Thun), Poland (Kraków), and Brazil (Sao Paulo). In 1991, he took part in the VIII International Piano and Chamber Music Marathon (“VIII Maratón Internacional de Piano and Música de Cámara”) by performing at the Madrid National Auditorium (Auditorio Nacional de Madrid).
Alfredo Corral has performed as solo pianist accompanied by the following orchestras: Banco Mayo, Cámara del Plata (Del Plata Chamber Orchestra), Ciudad de Buenos Aires, Sinfónica de la Policía Federal Argentina (Argentine Federal Police Department Symphony Orchestra) and Sinfónica Municipal de la ciudad de Avellaneda (Municipality of Avellaneda’s Symphony Orchestra).
In 1989, Alfredo Corral was awarded the Second Prize in the Fifth Argentine Music Contest, Banco Mayo Foundation (“Quinto Concurso Argentino de Música”, Fundación Banco Mayo), in the category “Consagración” (Best New Artist) for his performance at the main hall of the Colón Theater with the orchestra conducted by Mario Benzecry. Besides, he has obtained awards in the 1991 City of Necochea National Piano Contest (Nacional de Piano Ciudad de Necochea 1991) and the 1993 City of Bahía Blanca Contest (Ciudad de Bahía Blanca 1993), category: Rachmaninoff.
Between 1990 and 1994 Alfredo Corral played an active role in different piano advanced courses at important European centers, among them: Salzburg Mozarteum Musikhochschulo Summer School (Academia de verano de la Musikhochschulo del Mozarteum de Salzburgo), Austria; European Piano Course “Joventuts Musicals de Torroella de Montgrf” (El Curso Europeo de Piano “Joventuts Musicals de Torroella de Montgrf”) on a scholarship given by the Caixa de Catalunia Foundation, Spain; and Course in International Information on Spanish Music, “Music in Compostela” (Curso Internacional de Información de la Música Española “Música en Compostela”) on a scholarship awarded by ICI. Upon completion of this last course mentioned, the Board of Directors awarded him the prize “Rosa Sabater”, based on his outstanding performance. In 1996, he was awarded a scholarship to attend the Comprehensive Chamber Music Seminar “Bariloche Musical Camp” (Seminario Integral de Música de Cámara “Camping Musical Bariloche”) conducted by Master Nicolás Chumachenco, as well as the course given also by said Master in Thun (Switzerland). In 1997, he played an active role in the piano advanced course in German lied, given by Charles Spencer in “Cartusiana”- Gutenstein, Austria.
From 1983 on, Alfredo Corral has been teaching at institutions belonging to the Dirección Nacional de Enseñanza Artística (National Office for Art Teaching), as well as at the National Music Conservatory “Carlos López Buchardo” (IUNA) and The Conservatory of the Buenos Aires City, both in the piano department and as assistant professor in the singing department. |
