Concerto Stella Matutina is both a young and experienced ensemble. Concerto Stella Matutina (= CSM) is in the fortunate position of the freshness and the commitment of a relatively young orchestra, combined with many years of experience of its members in some of the most prestigious Baroque ensembles in Europe (Concentus Musicus Wien, The English Concert, L'Orfeo Barockorchester, and many others).
Since the establishment of the Baroque orchestra 2005 the number of engagements at home and abroad has been growing. CSM has its own concert series in Vorarlberg and has gained an ever growing core audience in a very short time. The musicians, next to the interpretation of familiar masterpieces, also pay special attention to forgotten works of the 17th and 18th centuries. Experimental projects as jazz / fusion, contemporary dance and implementing the latest findings performance practice regularly expand the open-minded horizon of CSM.
The co-operation with well-known soloists, conductors and musicologists from early music is the orchestra's concern, as well as the co-operation with vocal ensembles and choirs. Depending on the program and ensemble size, the orchestra works with or without a conductor. Musician who have directed CSM include: Alfredo Bernardini (Oboe), Erich Höbarth (Violin), Christophe Coin (Violoncello), Wolfram Schurig (Recorder), Clau Scherrer (Conductor), Johannes Strobl (Conductor), Thomas Platzgummer (Violoncello), Hiro Kurosaki (Violin), Rolf Lislevand (Lute), Kai Köpp (Viola), Benjamin Lack (Conductor), Alison Mc Gillivray (Cello), Giovanni Netzer (Intendant Origen Festival)., Rose Breuss (Choreographer), Christoph Hammer (Harpsichord).
In addition to numerous radio recordings CSM presented in 2012 its first CD " Trombett - undt musikalischer Taffeldienst" with High Baroque Austrian trumpet and chamber music.
Stella Matutina is the name of the former Jesuit College in Feldkirch; its building houses since 1977 the Landeskonservatorium für Vorarlberg. For most members of the CSM, this place was the beginning of their musical pro career. Some have returned here even as teachers. These common formative years of apprenticeship in the decades-old colleagues and friendships, form a healthy breeding ground for fruitful work at CSM.
