Columbia Baroque Soloists (Chamber Music Ensemble)

Founded: 2007 - Columbia, South Carolina, USA

History

Columbia Baroque Soloists is a professional chamber ensemble comprised of South Carolina’s leading Baroque music specialists, each with distinguished careers as chamber musicians, teachers and soloists. Its mission is to enhance the listener’s appreciation and understanding of Baroque music by developing a connection with the mind and ear of the composer through performance on instruments of the period using historically informed performance practice, tuning and temperament.

The ensemble brings to life historically inspired and spirited performances with varying combinations of voice, recorder, violin, viola da gamba and harpsichord. During the past concert season, CBS performed for over 2,300 people in South Carolina, Georgia and North Carolina. Audiences are engaged through recordings heard on SC ETV Classical Radio and videos viewed on NPR’s blog “Deceptive Cadence” and YouTube.
