The Brazilian pianist and composer, Artur Cimirro, started his musical studies alone with the guitar (1995). His first contact with piano was in 1996, and after 2001 he dedicated himself to this instrument. Between the years 2003 and 2004, he had classes with Maestro Leandro Menezes Faber and attended several master-classes by renowned pianists.
In his first solo recital in Brazil (November 28, 2003, Santa Maria/RS) Artur Cimirro played an amazing program in two parts: Franz Liszt's Après une lecture de Dante, Sonate in B minor; Ravel's Gaspard de la nuit; Igor Stravinsky's 3 Moviments from Petrushka; Heitor Villa-Lobos' Rudepoema; Cimirro's Valsa nº 1. Since then he has played in almost all Brazilian states and in countries like: Spain, Germany, France, Switzerland, Poland, Bulgaria, New Zealand and Australia invited by International Festivals and Music Universities.
The focus of his studies is the virtuoso repertoire from F. Liszt's paraphrases to Sorabji's Sonatas. His repertoire also consists of works from the Baroque Dietrich Buxtehude to the living composers like Allan Crossman, Samuel Peruzollo Vieira, among others, which results in a list with more than 200 composers names including the great Masters J.S. Bach, W.A. Mozart, L.v. Beethoven, Frédéric Chopin, etc.
Throughout his studies Artur Cimirro developed an interpretative technique which is called "Scientific Interpretation System" where the works are analyzed taking into consideration their historical factors involving composer and work, with a faithful reading of the score in the compositional context (contrapuntal/harmonic/analytic).
In 2008, Artur Cimirro was the first foreign to win in Poland the “V Konkurs na Projekt Nagraniowy Zapomniana Muzyka Polska” with the CDs recording project with the complete works by the virtuoso composer Carl Tausig (1841-1871). In 2009 musical critics compared him to the greatest icons of the virtuoso piano music like F. Liszt, György Cziffra and Vladimir Horowitz. In 2010 received in Rio Grande do Sul state (Brazil) the trophy “Bravo - Álvaro Godoy” in recognition to his trajectory as pianist Worldwide In 2011 he was invited by Stuart & Sons Handcrafted Pianos to make recordings and concerts in Australia, the result of this tour is the CD & DVD "Cimirro plays Stuart & Sons in Terra Australis".
Artur Cimirro is also a classical composer and arranger, and up till now has made a great number of works. He started with piano transcriptions, the first of which was W.A. Mozart's Lacrimosa from Requiem done by ear, piano compositions in classical/romantic style, and his first 'improvisations' on famous and popular themes, all of which between 1999 and 2000). Currently, his improvisations are strongly influenced by Franz Liszt, Leopold Godowsky, and György Cziffra. His compositions are influenced by J.S. Bach, some romantic composers (F. Liszt, F. Chopin, and Charles-Valentin Alkan), and by some modern composers (Ravel, I. Stravinsky, Heiss, and Messiaen). A complete list of his works is available in his website.
Artur Cimirro is executive editor of the digital Music Magazine Opus Dissonus where he works also as art critic. |
