The Polish-born violinist, Nicolás Chumachenco, son of Russians, grew up and started his musical training in Argentina. He left Argentina to perfect violin studies in the USA with the legendary Jascha Heifetz at the University of South California and with Efrem Zimbalist at the Curtis Institute of Philadephia. He was the winner of the prestigious Tchaikovsky contest in Moscow and Queen Elizabeth in Brussels.
Nicolás Chumachenco started then a brilliant career that led him to perform on the major concert halls throughout Europe. Inmediately, great conductors of the moment invited him as soloist to perform the masterpieces of the concert repertoire. Among them, Wolfgang Sawallisch, Zubin Mehta, Ferdinand Leitner, Vaclav Smetacek, Peter Maag or Rudolf Kempe, among others, as well as Yehudi Menuhin, with whom he collaborated regularly at the Gstaad Festival that now has the name of the renowned violinist.
At the same time, Nicolás has worked chamber music in different styles: violin solo - including recital interpretations and recordings of the two masterpieces of his repertoire: The Sonatas and Partitas by J.S. Bach and the Caprichos by Paganini. He participated as first violin in the Zürich Kammerquartett, with whom he has offered numerous concerts in Europe and America. Chumachenco is conductor and soloist of the Orquesta de Cámara Reina Sofía (Queen Sofía Chamber Orchestra) in Madrid since 1990.
Nicolás has been for many years Professor of violin at the Musikhochschule in Freiburg (Germany). Actually he offers master-classes in Aragon’s Conservatory.
His recordings include the two great monuments of music for solo violin, J.S. Bach’s Sonatas and Partitas and the Caprices of Paganini. |
