The French tenor, Matthieu Chapuis, began singing by joining Chœur d’enfants de l’Opéra de Paris. Later, in parallel with his engineering studies, he participated in the creation of the Jeune Chœur de Paris under the direction of Laurence Equilbey. In 2003 he abandoned his engineering profession to enroll at the Centre de Musique Baroque de Versailles (CMBV) at the age of 28. He obtained there his Musical Studies Diploma.
After his music studies, Matthieu Chapuis began singing under the direction of conductors such as Emmanuelle Haïm, William Christie, Herve Niquet, D. Stern, J. Corréas or Jean Tubéry. After getting his first solo roles from 2007, he began in 2009 truly his career, performing notably Scaramuccio in Ariadne auf Naxos by R. Strauss (A. Engel) and St. Matthew Passion (BWV 244) by J.S. Bach (Benoît Haller).
In recent years, Matthieu Chapuis has been heard in the roles of the first soldier and Liberto in L'incoronazione di Poppea by C. Monteverdi, in St. Matthew Passion (BWV 244) by J.S. Bach or recital in the magnificent cycle for tenor by Charles Gounod. During the 2012-2013 season, he performed Jealousy and the second Corinthian in Medea by Charpentier in the Théâtre des Champs Élysées and the opéra de Lille conducted by Emmanuelle Haïm or Iro in Il ritorno d'Ulisse in patria by Monteverdi conducted by J. Corréas. Recently, he has been heard in the roles of Tancrède in Il combattimento by Monteverdi conducted by F. Siaud, in Petite Messe Solennelle by Rossini with the Ensemble 7ème Sens. He also sang the roles of Marin and the Spirit in Dido and Aeneas by Purcell conducted by Jean Tubéry, Uriel in Haydn's Creation at the Festival de Lanvellec and at the Opéra de Rennes conducted by G. Pungier.
