Angela Carr (Soprano)

Born: USA

TYhe American soprano, Angela Carr and music teacher, obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education & Voice Performance from Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy, Massachusetts in 2003; her Master od Music degree in Voice Performance from Longy School of Music in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 2005; her A.B.D. ("All but dissertation" in Voice Performance fromn Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana in 2015. He teacher have includecd Thomas Jones at Eastern Nazarene College, Jayne West at Longy School of Music, and Kathleen Maurer at Ball State University (current); her vocal coaches: Dan Sullivan at Longy School of Music (2005-2006). and Hyery Hwang, Ball State University (current). She attended master-classes cwith Donna Loewy at Ball State University (September 19, 2014).

With a voice that has been described as having a “gorgeous, resonant ring,” Angela Carr has performed in churches and halls throughout the eastern USA and Japan. She has appeared as a soloist with the Nashville Symphony, New England Light Opera, and The Nashville Choir. Recently she performed as soprano soloist for Antonio Vivaldi’s Gloria and has sung in various recitals at Ball State University and Taylor University. Upcoming performances include Dubois’ Les sept paroles du Christ with the Planet Earth Singers and vocal soloist in the Ball State University New Music Ensemble’s performance of Alex Mincek’s Color, Form, Line.

In addition to classical music, Angela Carr has been active in Christian music as a singer, keyboardist, and worship leader. Her ministry has taken her to churches, retreats, and Christian conference centers across the USA, Japan, and Africa. During her time in Nashville, she sang in choirs for well-known Christian artists such as Michael W. Smith, Amy Grant, Wintley Phipps, and Jars of Clay. In 2012, she performed as a back-up singer for Larnelle Harris in his Larnelle Live in Nashville taped concert performance. Angela has also had experience as a session singer for albums such as Jeremy Camp's "We Cry Out: The Worship Project" album (2010) and Discovery House Music's "In Pastures Green" (2012). In 2009, she was chosen as one of the Top 15 semi-finalists out of 868 entries in the Smithsonian's "O Say Can You Sing?" National Anthem Contest, and in 2007, she performed in Boston’s Symphony Hall as one of the top sixteen vocalists in the Boston Pops Popsearch.

In the spring of 2015, Angela Carr received the Ball State University Doctoral Excellence in Teaching award for outstanding teaching, innovation, and leadership. She currently teaches voice at Taylor University and is finishing a doctoral degree in Voice Performance at Ball State University.
