The American contralto, actor, composer and music teacher, Diana Cantrelle, studies with the international soprano Carmen Balthrop, international baritones François Loup & William Sharp, Robert Muckenfuss, Doug Byerly, James Harp, Katerina Souvorova. She studies acting with John Astin, Roger Brunyate and Garnett Bruce. She has a Masters Degree in Voice Performance/Vocal Pedagogy with minor Composition Studies from Peabody Conservatory of Music - John Hopkins in 2012 (2009-2012). Her awards include: Lillian Howard Mann Memorial Voice Award from Peabody Conservatory (2012); Scholarship from Peabody Conservatory of Music (Career Development Grant, 2012 & 2014; Scholarship from American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria; German Language Studies from Goethe Institut in Murnau, Germany; MacAllister Awards in Los Angeles; MET Encouragement Award; Pasadena Opera Guild Award.
Diana Cantrelle is at home in opera, oratorio, TV and film. Critical reviews say, “her deep rich voice gives new meaning to the words and her roles have vibrant vocal color and style.” Her French repertoire, love of Verdi & oratorio interpretation provides, “high points to performances where she shows delicate vocal warmth as well as her acting talent.” “…she is a smart choice with her ability to give emotional depth to the opera’s score.”
Diana Cantrelle has performed at the Lyric in Baltimore, Wolf Trap, Pittsburgh Undercroft Opera, Toronto Opera Works, NYC Harmonia Opera, Peabody Opera Theatre, Washington Savoyards, L’Alliance Française, Silesian State Theatre (Czech Republic), Cincinnati Opera, Townsend Opera Players (California), Elysium (German Tour), Opera Santa Barbara & Opera Pacific. Some favorite roles are Baba in The Medium, Azucena in Il Trovatore, Suzuki in Madame Butterfly, Witch in Hänsel & Gretel, Charlotte in Werther, Martha in The Secret Garden, Mother in Amahl & the Night Visitors.

Diana Cantrelle has created a new children’s opera Le Chat Botté (Puss in Boots) © 2012 based on the original Charles Perrault beloved fable, with a New Orleans Jazz twist. She studies composition with Judah Adashi and is a recipient of a Peabody Career Development Grant to produce Le Chat Botté. Her CD "Vive la France, released in 2012, includes several of her own compositions. She is a memberr of Screen Actors Guild (Actor) and American Guild of Musical Artists (Opera Singer/Actor). Since 2009 she teaches voice, composition, and acting in her own studio Artemis Voice Studios & Productions.in Columbia, Maryland. Since January 2013 she is also Voice, Composition & Acting Teacher at Maryland Music Academy. |
