The Mexican tenor, Javier Camarena, studied voice at the Guanajuato University. In 2004, he won the first prize at the Carlo Morelli Singing Competition in Mexico and the Juan Oncinas award at the Francisco Viñas Competition in Barcelona in 2005. He is currently coached by Francisco Araiza.
Javier Camarena made his debut in 2004 in Mexico at the Palacio de Bellas Artes singing Tonio in La Fille du Régiment. In Mexico, he subsequently performed Belmonte in Die Entführung aus dem Serail, Nemorino in L’Elisir d’amore, Ernesto in Don Pasquale and Dorvil in La Scala di Seta.
Since April 2007, Javier Camarena has been engaged as a soloist at the Zürich Opera, where he sang Lindoro in the new production of L’Italiana in Algeri (with Vesselina Kasarova), Almaviva in Barbiere di Siviglia by Paisiello and Rossini, Belfiore in W.A. Mozart's Finta Giardiniera, Ferrando in W.A. Mozart's Così fan tutte, Fileno in Fedeltà premiata by Haydn, Mosè in Egitto, Nadir in Georges Bizet's Les Pêcheurs de Perles, Le Comte d’Ory, Falstaff, W.A. Mozart's Entführung aus dem Serail and Otello by Rossini.
Javier Camarena was also invited to sing Almaviva in Barbiere di Siviglia and Italiana in Algeri at the Vienna State Opera and at the Paris Opera, Lindoro in Cologne, Düsseldorf and Dresden, Ramiro in La Cenerentola at the Brussels Opera as well as La Sonnambula, La Donna del Lago and Cenerentola at the Paris Opera and Barbiere di Siviglia at the Metropolitan Opera New York. Further plans include the revivals of Entführung aus dem Serail and Falstaff at Zürich Opera, Elisir d’amore in Barcelona, La Sonnambula at the Metropolitan Opera New York, Barbiere di Siviglia in Munich, Vienna and San Francisco as well as Maria Stuarda at the Liceo in Barcelona. Concerts are planned with the Salzburg Festival.
His concert engagements included Rossini’s Stabat Mater with the Orquestra Sinfonica de Guatemala, Mozart’s Requiem with the Orquestra Sinfonica de Michoacan, various opera galas at the Palacio de Bellas Artes and concerts with the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra, with the Cleveland Orchestra and Franz Welser-Möst as well as with the Orchestra Mozart and Claudio Abbado. |
