The Chinese basa-baritone, Xiao-Feng Cai, graduated from high school in 2002; tyhen had his first studies in music education at the University of Shanghai, which he completed in 2006 with the diploma. In order to fulfill his wish to study in Germany, he then worked for three years in Shanghai in a civilian job. His love of singing, the German language and culture, especially the "German Lied" (W.A. Mozart, Schubert, Robert Schumann, Johannes Brahms, Wolf) led him in 2009 to the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Frankfurt am Main. Here he studied opera and concert singing in the class of Professor Berthold Possemeyer.
Meanwhile, Xiao-Feng Cai already participated in various scenic university productions, including but not limited in W.A. Mozart's opera Zaide, the title role in W.A. Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro and as Phoebus in J.S. Bach's Dramma per Musica Streit zwischen Phoebus und Pan, BWV 201 successfully performed at the Weilburger Schlosskonzerten in 2011.
As bass-baritone soloist in cantatas of J.S. Bach, Xiao Feng Cai has provided his great vocal and stylistic flexibility on several occasions in the monthly Wisebaden-Frankfurt Bach-Vespern at St. Katharinen Frankfurt and Marktkirche Wiesbaden, a co-operation of the Hochschul with the Evangelischen Landeskirche. |
