Coro Valdese di Torino (Choir)

Founded: 2nd half of the 19th century - Torono, Italy

The Coro Valdese di Torino (Corale Evangelica di Torino = CVT) was founded in the second half of the 19th century a few years after the construction of the Waldensian Temple in the city of Turin (1853 ) and was first known as the 'Società Corale Protestante'. With the entrance of choristers coming from other Protestant and non Protestant communities, the CVT widened its repertoire, traditionally consisting of an historical one from the Waldensian valleys (Complainte) to one typical of the Protestant tradition: from Huguenot psalms to the great production of Lutheran and Anglican baroque.

The CVT frequently exchanges concerts with other Italian and foreign communities and participates in the various concert seasons. Besides liturgical and concert activities, the CVT participates in the recording of pieces also for the phonographic archives of the RAI. With the 'Accademia dei Solinghi' they have recorded the CD 'Bach-Buxtehude-Kuhnau' (Ruggenti, Milano 1994 ) which includes the first recording of the cantata Uns ist Ein Kind geboren written by J. Kuhnau also performed in Eurovision. The CVT has recently recorded the CD 'J.S.Bach, I corali del catechismo di Lutero' (Claudiana, Torino 1999 ) and have participated in the production of the cd 'Musica Protestante' issued with the journal 'Avvenimenti (June 2000 ). The CVT has been directed by Flavio Gatti since 1987.
