Columbus Bach Ensemble (Baroque Ensemble) |
Founded: 2001 - Columbus, Ohio, USA |
History |
In the summer of 2000, Christine Shumway Mortine was accepted to the internationally acclaimed Oregon Bach Festival, where she studied with conductor Dr. Helmuth Rilling. This event was the turning point and the birth of Columbus Bach Ensemble (= CBE) for Christine Shumway Mortine. Upon returning to Columbus, she began to establish a strong working board, contact musicians and raise funds. The company was incorporated in December 2000 and received 501©3 tax exempt status shortly thereafter. CBE presented its first performance on December 1, 2001 in the St. Turibius Chapel of the Pontifical College Josephinum in Columbus, Ohio to a standing room only house. Through hard work, consistent high quality and community support CBE continues to grow and perform in central Ohio. As a part of the Josephinum Music Series i Fiori Musicali, Columbus Bach Ensemble will begin its 4th season with J.S. Bach’s Mass in B Minor (BWV 232) Saturday, November 6 and Sunday, November 7, 2004. |
