The American soprano, Katherine (Katie) Buzard, obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in Music with Certificate in Vocal Performance Princeton University in Urbana, Illinois (2010-2014; graduated magna cum laude); her Master of Music in Vocal Performance from Royal College of Music in London (2014-2016). She studied with Sarah Pelletier. She also participated in Amherst Early Music Festival in New London, Connecticut (Summer 2011); Ardingly International Music School in Eastbourne, UK (Summer 2013); Early Music Vancouver - "Compleat Singer" in Vancouver, Canada (Summer 2014). In March 2014, he had the honor of participating in a master-class with Joyce DiDonato and opened for her concert at Richardson Auditorium with a short recital. Her awards include: 1st Place at Freshman Women Division New Jersey NATS Competition 2011; Among winners at Handel Aria Competition Princeton University (2012); Isidore & Helen Sacks Memorial Award Princeton University (2014); Opperby Stokowski Scholarship Royal College of Music (2014-2015).
Praised for her "deluxe tone quality," Katherine Buzard has performed a wide range of repertoire in the US and abroad. Her concert repertoire includes Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 4, Johannes Brahms' Ein Deutsches Requiem, George Frideric Handel's Messiah, J.S. Bach's Magnificat (BWV 243) (Leipzig, 2014) and a number of J.S. Bach cantatas. On campus she sang with the Princeton University Glee Club and Chamber Choir.
Katherine Buzard's operatic roles include: Rusalka in Rusalka, Suor Angelica (cover) and Sorella Cercatrice II/Ensemble in Suor Angelica, Venus in Venus & Adonis (2016), Poppea in Monteverdi’s L’incoronazione di Poppea (2014), Ernesto in Alessandro Scarlatti’s La Principessa Fedele (2011) at the Amherst Early Music Festival, Nancy in Benjamin Britten's Albert Herring (2012), Lucy in Gian Carlo Menotti’s The Telephone (2011), and she premiered roles in two one-act operas in Princeton’s One Act Opera Project in 2012 (Tara in Anthony Davis' Lear on the Second Floor). In addition, she has performed the roles of Susannah in G.F. Handel's Susannah, Donna Anna in W.A. Mozart's Don Giovanni, Meleagro in Atalanta, Aminta in W.A. Mozart's Il re pastore, Serpetta in W.A. Mozart's La finta giardiniera, Adele in Die Fledermaus, and Dorinda in G.F. Handel's Orlando (2015) in opera scenes performances.
In March 2019 Katherine Buzard won the Margaret Fabian Elath scholarship through the Musicians Club of Women in Chicago and gave recitals at the Chicago Cultural Center and Union League Club in early 2020. She is currently an Emerging Artist with Vocal Artists Management Services (VAMS). |
