The Polish conductor and counter-tenor, Jakub Burzyński, graduated with distinction from the faculty of Theory, Composition and Musical Education of the Academy of Music in Katowice and from the Vocal-Acting faculty of the Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz with a diploma of counter-tenor. He also studied symphonic and opera conducting. He has brought into being many chamber music ensembles.
In 1998, Jakub Burzyński created a vocal-instrumental group La Tempesta, with which he has been regularly performing and recording works from the Renaissance polyphony to late Romanticism using appropriate instruments and vocal techniques. In addition to these performances, the artist is active as a soloist and conductor.
Between 2001 and 2005, Jakub Burzyński has been working with the Warsaw Chamber Opera. He has appeared on stage in numerous parts, among them were: Athlete from Balthazar by Krauze, Goffredo from Rinaldo by George Frideric Handel, Hyacinthus and Farnace from Apollo et Hyacinthus and Mitridate, re di Ponto by Mozart. In 2008 he sung the role of Apollo/Nomio in Antonio Vivaldi’s Dorilla in Tempe in several performances in Znojmo and Třebíč (Czech Republic), which was extremely well noticed by the Czech and Austrian press. Since march 2009 he appears in National Theatre in Warsaw in 18th-century French Play La Fausse Suivante by Marivaux. He performed during several festivals in his own country and Europe as well. His solo repertoire includes pieces from early music to works written by contemporary composers.
Jakub Burzyński's debut solo CD album - "Vespers of Sorrow" by Antonio Vivaldi - has been acclaimed the Recording of the Year by the British Internet portal Music Web International. It was released by renowned Swedish music label BIS. Another solo disc, containing sacred music of J.S. Bach will be released in 2009 by German label Arts Music. Jakub Burzyński is also the author of several articles, translations and rewievs published in professional and popular magazines, he also involved in programmes broadcast by Polish Radio's Channel 2. |
