The Belgian tenor, Roland Bufkens, received his training at the Conservatoire of Brussels, which he supplemented by courses with the German teacher Clemens Glettenberg.
Roland Bufkens began then a very successful concert career, whereby he appeared particularly in Germany. In the center of his concert appearances was located the interpretation of the works of J.S. Bach, in particular his Passions. He sang the tenor-solo in Roméo et Juliette by Berlioz with a Japan tour and afterwards at the Théâtre of the Champs of Élysées in Paris under Lorin Maazel. In the Concertgebouw Amsterdam he appeared in a concert performance of Igor Stravinsky’s Mavra, in Madrid in Le Mystère de la Nativité by Franc Martin. In Brussels he sang Falla’s La vida breve. He performed in his concerts as in numerous radio programmes works of Schubert, Grétry, Gossec, Lully, Heinrich Schütz, Dumont and Carl Orff as well as compositions of the Belgian composers André Laporte and Willem Kersters. He appeared at the Holland Festival, at the Festival of Lourdes, at the Festivals of Flanders and Schwetzingen and at the Biennale of Zagreb. In addition he worked as a teacher at the Conservatoire of Brussels, where he was appointed as Professor, likewise at Lemmens Institute in Lion (Louvain).
