The Irish harpsichordist, Emer Buckley, discovered the harpsichord during her studies at University College Dublin. She continued her studies in France and Italy and She studied with John Beckett at the RIAM in the mid 1970's, and also with Kenneth Gilbert and Huguette Dreyfus.
After her studies, Emer Buckley moved to Paris to begin a career as soloist and continuo player. She has participated in numerous festivals in Europe and the USA and recorded for many major radio stations including France Musique, B.B.C., R.T.E., W.D.R. Köln, N.D.R. Hamburg, Süddeutscher Rundfunk, Radio Classique. She has made recordings for the Harmonia Mundi, Natives, Adda, Erato, Mandala, and Ligia Digital labels. Besides, she edited some of the harpsichord music collection of Fuzeau. She has recorded for Harmonia Mundi suites by J.S. Bach and pieces by Peter Philips.
Since 1994 Emer Buckley is harpsichordist of the early music ensemble Lachrimae Consort, founded in 1994 and directed by viola da gamba player Philippe Foulon. Together they have made several CD recordings, of which the most recent is El Jardin Oscuro.
Emer Buckley is currently living in France. She teaches harpsichord and continuo bass at the Conservatoire de Rayonnement Régional in Lille, France. |
