The Danish bass, Steffen Bruun, graduated from the Royal Danish Conservatorium of Music (Det Kongelige Danske Musikkonservatorium) in Copenhagen in June 2005, with further studies for a Diploma of Opera at Sydney Conservatorium of Music.
Shortly after his graduation, Steffen Bruun had his stage debut as The Emperor in Igor Stravinsky's The Nightingale at The Funen Opera. Furthermore, Steffen has sung Sarastro in W.A. Mozart's Magic Flute at Nyborg Sommeropera and is often cast in the low bass roles in Monteverdi's operas. Recent years, he has sung as Leone in George Frideric Handel's Tamerlano at the opera in Poznan, Don Inigo in Ravel's L'Heure Espagnole at Musikteatret Undergrunden and Comte de Grieux in Massenet's Manon alongside Patricia Petibon at Copenhagen Opera Festival.
Steffen Bruun's performance experiences includes amongst others: J.S. Bach's Christmas Oratorio (BWV 248), Passion of St. John (BWV 245), Passion of St. Matthew (BWV 244) and B Minor Mass (BWV 232), W.A. Mozart's Requiem, Robert Schumann's Requiem, Gabriel Fauré's Requiem, G.F. Handel's Messiah and Israel in Egypt, Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle, Berlioz’ L’Enfance du Christ, L.v. Beethoven's C major mass, Janacek’s Glagolitic Mass, Dietrich Buxtehude's Membra Jesu Nostri, Monteverdi’s Vespro delle Beate Vergine with orchestras such as the Danish National Symphony Orchestra, Danish National Chamber Orchestra, Flensburger Bach-Orchester, Kieler Barock, Oxford Philomusica, Concerto Copenhagen (Director: Lars Ulrik Mortensen), Malmö Symphony Orchestra, as well as the symphony orchestras of Odense, Ålborg and Southern Jutland. He currently lives in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Recent recordings include a performance of Klenau's Symphony No. 9 and a new recording of Carl Nielsen’s opera Masquerade (Vægteren, both in cooperation with Danish National Symphony Orchestra. |
