The English bass-baritone, Quentin Brown, began to love singing back in his time as a boy chorister at Rochester Cathedral. As an adult he became a lay-clerk at Leeds Parish Church and subsequently a member of the BBC Northern Singers under Stephen Wilkinson; he studied with Sybil Chambers, John Carol-Case, David Mason and Paul Wade.
Quentin Brown is principal Bass soloist for the St Peter's Singers of Leeds, where he has been fortunate to work with Dr Simon Lindley for over 25 years. Now he performs a wide repertoire ranging from J.S. Bach and George Frideric Handel to Felix Mendelssohn, Rossini, Berlioz, Verdi, Edward Elgar, Ralph Vaughan Williams, and Orff. In 2000, he was among the soloists in the Goldberg Ensemble's performance of the St John Passion (BWV 245), marking the 250th anniversary of J.S. Bach's death, and he has appeared with the Manchester Camerata and with the English Symphony Orchestra under Dr Donald Hunt. Recent engagements include E. Elgar's Dream of Gerontius, F. Mendelssohn's St Paul, Christopher Steel's Sinfonia Sacra, Carl Orff's Carmina Burana and J.S. Bach's St John Passion (BWV 245). Future engagements include several J.S. Bach's Cantata concerts and the St Matthew Passion (BWV 244), G.F. Handel's Messiah, W.A. Mozart's Requiem, Rossini's Petite Messe Solennelle, Dvorak's Stabat Mater and R. Vaughan Williams' Five Mystical Songs.
Quentin Brown has given a number of recitals of both operatic and English 20th Century Song repertoire, most recently at The Venue in Leeds, in conjunction with other artists such as Simon Lindley, Darius Battiwalla, Jonathan Lilley, David Jones, Hazel Turner, Kathryn Woodruff and Joyce Tindsley.
