Karl Brock (Tenor)

Born: June 17, 1930 - Great Bend, Kansas, USA

The American tenor, Karl Brock, was a student of the great tenor Paul Althouse in New York and was additionally trained by the New York educators Alice Nichols and Rose Landver.

In 1957 Karl Brock made his debut at the Stadttheater in Basel as Tamino in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte. He had important successes at this house, as well as in West Germany at the opera houses of Essen, Hannover, Bonn and Wiesbaden. He appeared as a guest at the Opera of Monte Carlo and the Opera of St. Paul. His repertoire culminated in both heroic and lyric tenor roles: as Florestan in L.v. Beethoven's Fidelio, José in Georges Bizet's Carmen, Canio in Bajazzo, Belmonte in W.A. Mozart's Die Entführung aus dem Serail, Don Ottavio in W.A. Mozart's Don Giovanni, Tamino in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte, Ferrando in W.A. Mozart's ' Così fan tutte, Riccardo in Verdi's' Ballo in maschera, the title role in Offenbach's Hoffmanns Erzählungen, as Rodolfo in Puccini's La Bohème, Pinkerton in Madame Butterfly, Michele in Il Tabarro, R. Wagner's Lohengrin, Hans in B. Smetana's The Bartered Bride, Fenton in Nicolai's Lustigen Weibern von Windsor, Pedro in 'Eugen d'Albert's Tieflandt, the title role in Albert Herring and as Male Chorus in The Rape of Lucretia by Benjamin Britten and Michele in The Saint of Bleecker Street by G.C. Menotti.

Karl Brock currently livesd in Oshkosh, where he teaches at the University of Wisconsin and gives guest performances, including concerts in the music centers of the USA.
