The German counter-tenor, Thomas Bremser, received his first trumpet lessons at the age of 8 years and sang as a boy soprano at St. Lambert's Church at Hildesheim. He took trumpet lessons from Heribert Bounce (Mönchengladbach), took over his time as a trumpeter in the Army Band 7 in Düsseldorf. He studied at the Musikhochschule in Cologne, Baroque trumpet with Walter Holy (collegium Musicum WDR) and, finally, he studied singing in the voice of counter-tenor from 1984 at the Robert-Schumann-Hochschule, with, among others, Hea Soon Park, Heinz Julius Scholz and Michaela Krämer. He attended numerous master-classes with Emma Kirkby, Paul Esswood, Anner Bylsma, René Jacobs and Max van Egmond, among others. In 1985 he was engaged by the then director Michael Hampe as a soloist at the Kölner Oper. Further studies took him to the Mozarteum in Salzburg, where he was given instruction in musical drama by Nikolaus Harnoncourt in 1989.
In 1996 Thomas Bremser was engaged as a guest at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich. In the same year he made his debut as Hansel in the Kölner Oper. Thomas sang on international concert tours, under the baton of conductors as Christopher Hogwood, Frieder Bernius, Howard Arman, Georg Fischer and Arnold Östman.
For years Thomas Bremser has worked as a private voice teacher and vocal coach. At the end of the season 2000-2001 he resigned after more than 9 years, from the ensemble of the Kölner Oper. From July 2001 to October 2003 he studied four semesters Speech therapy in Bochum. Since late 2002 he replaced Jan Fischer as instructor in "Functional Method according to Gisela Rohmert" in Lichtenberg.
Since mid-2005, Thomas Bremser gives vocal lessons with Professor Ingeborg Reichelt in Düsseldorf. In 2000 he formed the Ensemble Zungenreden with the accordionist Britta Antunes. Numerous Lieder programmes have taken the Ensemble Zungenreden to appearances at the Kölner Oper, the Dom-Forum zu Köln, the Museum Wilhelm Lehmbruck , the Ludwig Forum, Küppersmühle, etc. In 2002, Thomas Bremser made his debut as Schwan (Carmina Burana) at the Kölner Philharmonie.
Since 2006, Thomas Bremser is engaged in the "Culture and School" on behalf of North Rhine-Westphalia. He also organizes vocal seminars for choirs and singing groups. The present cycle by Thomas Bremser: "Orpheus am Rhein" 2004-2010. In 2007 he founded with composer and lutenist Thomas Bocklenberg the "Thomas B Duo". |
