The Swiss bass, Peter Brechbühler, studied in teacher seminar music education, choral conducting and singing at the Akademie für Schul- und Kirchenmusik in Lucerne. He received his Teacher Diploma in 1986 with Hermann Fischer; in 1991 his Soloist Diploma with distinction with Udo Reinemann at the Utrecht Academy of Music. He attended master-classes with Mitsuko Shirai and Hartmut Höll in Frankfurt, Jindrich Jindrak in Prague and Margreet Honig in Amsterdam. In 1992 he won First Prize and "Prix pour la Mélodie Française" at the International Singing Competition "Henri Sauguet" in Martigues.
From 1992 to 1996 Peter Brechbühler was engaged at the Luzerner Theater, where he sang many roles for his voice. He has given numerous guest performances at various opera houses in Europe, including at the Stadttheater St. Gallen, the Stadttheater Giessen, at the Prague State Opera and the Opéra de Lyon. He has had Lieder recitals and concert engagements throughout Europe and at various music festivals, including Auvers sur Oise, Féstival du Marais in Paris, Musikwochen Braunwald, Lucerne Easter Festival and the Lucerne Festival. Concert tours have taken him to Germany, France, Holland, Italy, Japan, the USA and Russia. He has sung with conductors such as Claudio Abbado, Kent Nagano, Andrew Parrott, Stephen Cleobury, Jonathan Nott, Hans Vonk, and Hans-Martin Linde, among others.
Since 1996 Peter Brechbühler is a freelance singer, and directs a professional class for solo singing at the Musikhochschule in Lucerne. |
