The Swiss baritone, Hanspeter Brand, was at the Conservatoire of Berne pupil of Willy Frey and continued his training until 1971 with Jakob Stämpfli and with Jakob Keller. He supplemented his training by participating in master-classes with Paul Lohmann in Lucerne and with Gérard Souzay in Geneva.
Since 1970 Hanspeter Brand had a successful concert career in Switzerland as well as abroad, including Darmstadt, Freiburg, Karlsruhe, Nürnberg, Stuttgart, Rotterdam and Milan. In his concert repertoire were solo parts in works of J.S. Bach (Johannes (BWV 245) and Matthäus-Passion (BWV 244), Mass in B minor (BWV 232), Weihnachts-Oratorium (BWV 248), Cantatas), George Frideric Handel (Messiah, Judas Makkabäus, Samson, Saul), J. Haydn (Schöpfung, Jahreszeiten), W.A. Mozart (Requiem), L.v. Beethoven (Mass in C major), Rossini (Stabat Mater, Petite Messe Solennelle), Johannes Brahms (Deutsches Requiem), Camille Saint-Saëns (Oratorio du Noël), Szymanowski (Stabat Mater), Willy Burkhard (Das Jahr) and Franc Martin (Golgotha). Within the range of the Lieder singing he dedicated himself to the interpretation of the German as well as the French art song.
