The English lyric soprano, Philippa Boyle, had from 2001 to 2003 2001 Scholarship to Dartington International Summer School (master-classes with Patricia Rosario); Royal College of Music Junior Department (oboe, piano); National Youth Choirs of Great Britain. She was a choral scholar at Clare College, Cambridge, where she read Classics and obtained her Master of Arts degree (2003-2006). With the Choir of Clare College, Cambridge she toured Japan, Hong Kong, the USA and all over Europe and is a soloist on several of their recordings. She has also performed as a soloist under conductors including Ivor Bolton, John Rutter and Sir David Willcocks. She trained at il Conservatorio Santa Cecilia in Rome with Elvira Spica de Masi and David Ciavarella, graduating with full marks and distinction (2008-2010). She then attended the Opera Studio at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, where she studied bel canto with Renata Scotto (2010). The same year she won 1st Prize at the Emmy Destinn Young Singer Awards; was Semi-finalist in the Kathleen Ferrier Awards; attended the British Youth Opera Workshops with director Will Kerley, and Kathleen Ferrier Award Masterclass with Mary Plazas and Robin Bowman (open to all semi-finalists and finalists in the 2013 Kathleen Ferrier Awards). In 2015, she attended Divas and Scholars Masterclass with Rosalind Plowright. She also attended master-classes with Sophie Boulin, Sara Mingardo, Brian Asawa, Catherine Bott, Dame Ann Murray, Patricia Rosario. Her teachers/coaches have also included Dinah Harris, Ludmilla Andrew, Paul Plummer, David Ciavarella, Elvira Spica de Masi, Susan Waters.
Philippa Boyle sang Filia in Carissimi's Jephthe in the Munich Opera Festival and Innsbruck Festwochen der Alten Musik under Ivor Bolton, and has also performed at the Festival d'Art Lyrique d'Aix en Provence, Beijing Music Festival and the Rome International Baroque Festival, and given recitals in Burma, Malaysia and Madeira.
Opera roles include Cathleen in Ralph Vaughan Williams' Riders to the Sea for Wexford Festival Opera, cover Cockerel in Janacek's Cunning Little Vixen for Glyndebourne Festival Opera, Alice Ford in Verdi's Falstaff for Woodhouse Opera, Donna Anna for Opus Opera, Giorgetta in Puccini's Il Tabarro for Opera Vera, Giunone in Cavalli's La Calisto for Hampstead Garden Opera; Dido in Purcell's Dido and Aeneas for Nightingale Opera; Angelica in George Frideric Handel's Orlando for Associazione OperaInCanto in Umbria; Giulia in Rossini's La Scala di Seta, Creuse in Charpentier;s Médée and Suor Genovieffa in Puccini's Suor Angelica at Conservatorio Santa Cecilia and Bastienne in W.A. Mozart's Bastien und Bastienne for Associazione A.B.I.L.I.S at Teatro Goldoni, Palazzo Altemps in Rome and Anne Trulove in Igor Stravinsky's The Rake's Progress for Cambridge University Opera Society. She has premiered two operas for composer Kim B Ashton: The Boy The Desert and the Forest (London premiere at Grimeborn Festival) and Tonseisha: The Man who Abandoned the World (world premiere) for Saltpeter Productions.
Other engagements in the UK include L.v. Beethoven''s Missa Solemnis in Snape Maltings and St Albans Cathedral, Sergei Rachmaninov's The Bells in Canterbury Cathedral, G.F. Handel's Messiah in York Minster, Benjamin Britten's War Requiem in Oxford Town Hall and Verdi's Requiem in the Sheldonian Theatre, Oxford and Blackheath Halls. Recent projects include Verdi's Requiem under David Hill in King's College, Cambridge, Messiah in Auditorio Manuel de Falla, Granada, W.A. Mozart's C Minor Mass in St Paul's Knightsbridge, Elis Pehkonen's Russian Requiem.
