The American baritone, Bert Boone, attended Indiana State University (ISU). While at ISU he won a full scholarship competing against instrumentalists and singers to the Aspen Music Festival and School of Music. At Aspen he began his advanced vocal training under the tutelage of renowned mezzo-soprano Jan DeGaetani.
Concentrating on concert and recital repertoire Bert Boone also has been regarded as a versatile Baroque specialist. No stranger to the opera stage his debut with the Opera Company of Philadelphia was in Donizetti’s La Fille du Regiment conducted by Jacques Colombe in his American debut now the current director with the Newark Symphony Orchestra. Other operatic highlights include working with the late grand maestro Julius Rudel as the cover for Metropolitan bass James Morris in Offenbach’s The Tales of Hoffmann. He was the baritone soloist in New York City Opera’s production of Porgy and Bess which aired on the PBS Live from Lincoln Center. At City Opera he has sung supporting roles from W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte to The Ballad of Baby Doe with Elizabeth Futral and Mark Delavan to Sondheim. With the Opera Français de New York he featured in Kurt Weil’s rarely performed Marie Galante conducted by Metropolitan Opera conductor Yves Abel. From 2000 to 2013 he was a member of the New York City Opera chorus. He currently lives in Union City, New Jersey. |
