The Dutch choral conductor, Ramon van der Boom, studied at Cobbenhagen College in Tilburg; Brabants Conservatorium in Tilburg. He completed the course in choral conducting with Martien van Woerkum and Hoite Pruiksma and obtained the diploma harpsichord with Cynthia Wilson and Rémy Syrier. In addition, he followed, among other things, singing, orchestral conducting, organ and basso continuo. In 2007-2008, under the guidance of Louis Buskens, he has further trained as a conductor. He also studied at Fontys University of Applied Sciences.
Ramon van der Boom has worked as as a lecturer in ensemble conducting and conductor of the choir class at Fontys Hogescholen (1999-2004); Conductor of Eindhovens Studenten Muziek Gezelschap (ESMG) Quadrivium and the Eindhovens Kamerkoor (1995-2006); Consultant of vocal music at Kunstbalie (October 2006-July 2013); Artistic Director of Tilburgs Vocaal Ensemble and Hasselts Gemengd Kapelle Koor (since September 2006); Musical Director of; Co-ordinator of Stichting Maestro in Noord-Brabant (since November 2013); Director of Koor Malkander (since 2013); Conductor of Roosevelt College Choir at University College Roosevelt (since February 2017).
As a harpsichordist Ramon van der Boom performs in chamber music ensembles or as a soloist. In the past years he was regularly heard in the series "Muziek in de Cathrien" in Eindhoven (with all concertos for 2, 3 and 4 harpsichords by J.S. Bach, for example), and he traveled with a performance of Purcell's opera King Artur to Brittany (France). As a basso continuo player, he regularly co-operates with various vocal and instrumental ensembles.
In addition to his work as a musician, Ramon van der Boom works as a consultant in vocal music at the Centrum voor Amateurkunst Noord-Brabant, and as such is closely involved in the training of amateur choir conductors. He currently lives in Tilburg, the Netherlands. |
