The Accademia d’Archi Bolzano [Italian] = Streicherakademie Bozen [German] = Bolzano String Academy [English] was created by the Südtiroler Musikverein (South Tyrolean Music Association) in 1987, under the artistic direction of Georg Egger. The string orchestra consists mainly of South Tyrolean musicians who have gained a wealth of experience in prominent chamber ensembles and orchestras at national and international level and pass on their profound experience in joint projects with budding young artists.
For the most part, the Accademia d'Archi Bolzano plays without a conductor. Some musicians are at the same time members of the Klassische Philharmonie Stuttgart, which is why a collaboration with conductor Frieder Bernius has developed. A close collaboration is also taking place with the pianist and conductor András Schiff, which has already led to numerous concerts with him.
In addition to the series of concerts it performs every year on its own, the Accademia d’Archi Bolzano is regularly invited to participate in other musical events, such as the Mozartwoche in Salzburg, the Gustav Mahler musical weeks in Dobbiaco, those of the Engadine and those of Ascona.
Among the numerous soloists who have collaborated with the Accademia d’Archi Bolzano should be mentioned Sergio Azzolini, Eduard Brunner, Giuliano Carmignola, Mirijam Contzen, Ingeborg Danz, Christian Gerhaher, Alexander Gilman, Viviane Hagner, Dietrich Henschel, Heinz Holliger, Diethelm Jonas, Louis Lortie, Antonio Meneses, Johannes Moser, Sabine and Wolfgang Meyer, Thomas Quasthoff, Birgit Remmert, Sibylla Rubens, András Schiff, Letizia Scherrer, Wen-Sinn Yang, Ruth Ziesak and Frank Peter Zimmermann. The ensemble has collaborated with conductors such as Hansjörg Albrecht, Frieder Bernius, Daniel Beyer, Jörg Faerber, Helmuth Rilling, Ola Rudner, András Schiff and Kaspar Zehnder.
The repertoire of the Accademia d’Archi Bolzano ranges from J.S. Bach, George Frideric Handel, Jan Dismas Zelenka to Schubert-Gustav Mahler's Der Tod und das Mädchen, Felix Mendelssohn, Benjamin Britten, Béla Bartók, Igor Stravinsky, Arnold Schoenberg, Schnebel and Stuppner. The ensemble has recorded several CD's with music by Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, W.A. Mozart, Rossini, Stuppner, Boccherini, A. Schoenberg, Strauss. |
