The Dutch soprano, Ellen Bollongino, studied piano and singing at the Rotterdam Conservatorium. She completed her singing studies with, among others, Bernhard Kruysen (specialization in the French song repertoire), Hermann Schey, Hélia Thézan and Cristina Deutekom.
After winning several prizes at prestigious singing competitions, Ellen Bollongino made her debut in Jeanne d'Arc au Bûcher by Arthur Honegger at the Holland Festival in 1982. In addition to her work as an opera singer, she regularly collaborated on performances by J.S. Bach's Mass in B minor (BWV 232), Johannes-Passion (BWV 245) and Matthäus-Passion (BWV 244) and others at the Grote Kerk in Naarden where she also sang the title role in Theodora by George Frideric Handel. Because of her versatility as a singer she sang with the Nederlands Danstheater the soprano part in Les Noces by Igor Stravinsky under the baton of David Porcelijn. With well-known conductors such as Charles de Wolff, Henry Lewis, Richard Hickox, Anton Kersjes and Edo de Waart, she has also given various performances. She had great success during her concert series in Germany with the Vier Letzte Lieder by Richard Strauss and her tour through Italy with Verdi's Requiem. She is regularly engaged by Nederlandse radio-omroepen. She is a much sought-after soloist at home and abroad and can be heard on various CD's, including Lola with the Budapest Opera Orchestra conducted by Roberto Paternostro. |
