The Romanian-born pianist, Valentin Mihai Bogdan, negan his music studies at the age of 4. Throughout his career he has studied piano, organ, music theory, composition and conducting. He graduated from the Brasov Institute of Music. Since his move to USA in 1997, Valentin graduated Magna cum Laude from Wayne State University with a undergraduate degree in Piano Performance, and then accepted a full scholarship to continued his studies at Michigan State University from where he received a Masters of Music degree in 2005. He graduated with a Doctor of Musical Art degree from University of Miami, Florida in 2008.
As a composer, Valentin Bogdan has had his music performed in the USA as well as Europe at prestigious concert events such as Festival Miami in 2008, Downtown Community Concert Series in Miami, FPPC Concert Series in Novi, Michigan and Varna Symphonic Workshop and Master class, Varna Bulgaria. Valentin also maintains a close collaboration with the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA). Besides his music being performed at a number of local events, he was also chosen to be the commissioned composer for the Florida State MTNA 2010 conference.
Since the age of 14, Valentin Bogdan was selected to be part of the Brasov Institute of Music orchestra which toured extensively throughout Europe and Asia in countries like Italy, Netherlands, Great Britain, France and Jordan. In the USA, Valentin was a member of the Jethro Marsh Trio which focused on bringing to life music written for the piano, violin and clarinet. Besides this collaboration, Valentin has also performed recitals at Hart Hall in East Lansing, Novi FCPC Concert Series in Novi, Michigan a full recital at Schaver Recital Hall in Detroit, Michigan as well as two performances of Gabriel Fauré piano trio at the Aria International Festival in London, Canada.
Besides chamber music, Valentin has also a great affinity for performing solo piano repertoire. Valentin Bogdan has performed numerous solo recitals in both USA as well as Europe and also experienced positive results at piano competitions. He was awarded the Second Prize at the Varna International Piano Competition in 2008. He was the winner of the Wayne State Concerto competition in 2002, he received the second place at the Birmingham Musicale the same year. Previously, he won the Livonia Arts Commission Music Competition. He was also the winner of the Berta Salon Piano Competition.
He appeared as a soloist with the Varna Philharmonic (Bulgaria) in 2008, the Wayne State University Symponic Orchestra (Detroit, MI) in 2002.
Valentin Bogdan is featured in a number of recordings of the Brasov Institute of Music Orchestra, two piano solo recordings “Live in Concert” and “The Grands of Piano,” and a piano four hand album recorded along pianist Julia Mortyakova featuring his own arrangements of Argentinean tangos." |
