The American tenor, choral conductor and music pedagogue, Ryan Board, studied at Boise High School in Garden City, Idaho. He obtained his Bachelor of Music Education (BME) degree from University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colorado; his Masster of Music degree from Westminster Choir College in Princeton, New Jersey (Class of 2002); and his DMA, Conservatory of Music at the University of Missouri - Kansas City (UMKC).
Ryan Board maintains an active schedule as a professional singer and conductor. Ryan Board was the founder, conductor and artistic director of the highly acclaimed Armonia Early Music Ensemble of Kansas City and For 5 years he has directed the KC Conservatory Collegium Vocale. He is currently principle conductor for the Prague Choral Festival in association with Prague Proms, and he has recently collaborated with or prepared choirs for Anton Armstrong, Simon Carrington, Joseph Flummerfelt, Andrew Megill, Andre Thomas, The Royal Concert Philharmonic Orchestra, the Daedalus String Quartet, The Kansas City Friends of Chamber Music, Charles Bruffy and the Kansas City Chorale, Jo Jennings, The Jewell Early Music Festival, and The Kansas City Baroque Consortium. He is also an avid conductor of choral-orchestral literature and has conducted works ranging from J.S. Bach's St. John Passion (BWV 245) to Arnold Schoenberg's A Survivor from Warsaw.
Ryan Board taught public-school music in Idaho Falls, Idaho, and was the Associate Music Director for the World Vision Youth Ambassador Program for which he performed and conducted in over 18 countries in Europe, Asia, and the Americas. After completing his Masters Degree, he was the Assistant Conductor of the New Jersey Masterwork Chorus, Assistant Conductor and tenor soloist at Trinity Episcopal Church, Princeton, and Adjunct Choral Faculty at William Paterson University. He has performed with such notable early music ensembles as Fuma Sacra, and and the Choral Scholars both of Princeton, New Jersey, Alchymey of Los Angeles, and is currently a member of the Simon Carrington Chamber Singers. He also serves as the Director of Music at St. Matthew's United Methodist Church in Newbury Park, California. Recent performances under his baton have been hailed as “powerfully musical” and “profoundly moving” (Kansas City Star).
Ryan Board served as Visiting Assitant Professor of Choral Music at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, where he conducted the Conservatory Singers, taught undergraduate and graduate conducting, graduate choral literature, and led the graduate choral conducting program. Choirs under his direction have been invited to perform at prestigious venues for state, regional, national, and international events including the National American Choral Directors Association Convention Association, the Prague Choral Festival, and the Piccolo Spoleto Festival's Spotlight Series.
Ryan Board, Director of Choral Activities at Pepperdine University, continues to garner international attention as a conductor, choral artist, teacher, and clinician. In his role as Director of Choral Activities at Pepperdine, he directs the Pepperdine Concert Choir and the Pepperdine Chamber Choir and teaches courses in Conducting, Music History, and Music Education. His areas of research include the sacred vocal works of Dietrich Buxtehude and the use of rhetoric and affections in vocal works of the Baroque period. |
