Anker Blyme (Piano)

Born: 1925 - Denmark

The Danish pianist, Anker Blyme, studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen and made his debut from the soloist class in 1945. In 1949-50 he went on a study trip to Paris.

Anker Blyme has engaged in extensive concert activities in Denmark and the rest of Scandinavia, including Iceland, in Russia and on the Continent as a soloist and chamber musician. He has recorded several gramophone records, including Debussy and Niels Wilhelm Gade complete piano works. He has given innumerable Danish piano and chamber works - some of them dedicated to him - their first performance. Niels Viggo Bentzon's piano music is particularly close to Blyme’s heart, and he has often performed his works for piano duo and piano 4 hands with him.

Anker Blyme has made a considerable contribution to music teaching at the Carl Nielsen Academy in Odense, the Royal Academy of Music in Århus, and since 1961 at the Royal Academy in Copenhagen, where he was appointed a professor in 1974, and from 1986 to 1989 alse served as ac rector.. He has received several awards including the Artist’s Prize of the Danish Music Critics and the Professor Ove Christensen Award.
