Elvira Bill (Mezzo-soprano)

Born: Germany

The German mezzo-soprano, Elvira Bill, studied singing with Professor Christoph Prégardien at the Kölner Musikhochschule, where she completed her diploma with distinction in the summer of 2010. While studying for her Abitur in Mönchengladbach, she received significant encouragement in her vocal studies from Reinhard Becker (Wuppertal). She also studies historical performance practice with the counter-tenor Kai Wessel. Important vocal and creative impulses came also from Ingeborg Danz, Thomas Heyer and Michael Gees. She is the winner of the Mendelssohn Competition Berlin 2010 in the vocal ensemble classification.

Elvira Bill's repertoire ranges from old masters to contemporary music. In the area of the oratorio she comprises all works of this genre. In addition, the mezzo-soprano performs recitals and solo concert programs with different thematic and musical focus. As a soloist she sang under the direction of renowned conductors such as Sylvain Cambreling, Marcus Creed, Paul Goodwin, Robin Gritton, Christopher Hogwood, Peter Neumann, Helmuth Rilling and many other conductors. From a young age she performed very successfully at the Berliner, Kölner and Essener Philharmonie, the Düsseldorfer Tonhalle and the Rheingau Musikfestival and the Bachfest Leipzig. She has toured many cities in Germany and Europe (including France, Austria, the Benelux countries, Italy, Portugal, Hungary) as well as Russia, China and Oman.

At the Theater Krefeld-Mönchengladbach Elvira Bill sang in Friedrich Cerha’s opera Der Riese vom Steinfeld. At the Donaueschinger Musiktage 2009 she sang with the SWR Sinfonieorchester Stuttgart under the direction of Sylvain Cambreling in the award-winning premiere of the opera Batsheba. Eat the History! by Manos Tsangaris. In the same year she produced two CD recordings: Brockes Passion, HWV 48 by George Frideric Handel conducted by Peter Neumann and Robert Schumann's Der Rose Pilgerfahrt with Michael Gees at the piano. At Theater Munster she sang in the 2010-2011 season the role of Pharao in the opera Moses muss singen by Prasqual. In September 2012, she took part in a tour with Arnold Schoenberg's opera Moses und Aron and the SWR Sinfonieorchester Stuttgart under the direction of Sylvain Cambreling, inter alia, at the Berliner Philharmonie, the Teatro Real Madrid and the Lucerne Festival. For 2014-2015 she performed at the Palace of Versailles and at La Folle Journée Nantes and Bachfest Leipzig..
