The English tenor, Simon Berridge, began his music studies at Trinity College, Cambridge where he was also awarded a choral scholarship, and subsequently continued his vocal studies at the Royal College of Music with Edward Brooks.
Simon Berridge is a highly experienced concert singer and has performed as a soloist with renowned ensembles including The Sixteen, Collegium Vocale Gent, and Les Arts Florissants. He has recorded many discs with these and other groups. Performances have included Messiah in Barcelona with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, Monteverdi’s Vespers at the BBC Proms and Edinburgh Festival and in Bremen, J.S. Bach’s Magnificat (BWV 243) in the Queen Elizabeth Hall, George Frideric Handel’s Israel in Egypt in the Covent Garden Festival with The Sixteen, St. Matthew Passion (BWV 244) in the London Handel Festival and the St. John Passion (BWV 245) with the Municipal Orchestra of Madrid performed live on Spanish Radio in the National Auditorium. He has recently performed in the Festival Accademia delle Crete Senesi in Tuscany with Collegium Vocale Gent under the direction of Philippe Herreweghe. With The Sixteen and City of London Sinfonia he has sung in the ‘Mostly Mozart’ festival at the Barbican, in Israel in Egypt in Spain and in The Sixteen’s ‘Handel in Oxford’ series. He also took part in the recent television series ‘Sacred Music’ which was broadcast on BBC 4 and later on BBC 2.
Forthcoming performances include Haydn’s Seasons and many performances with The Sixteen including their Choral Pilgrimage.
Simon Berridge’s operatic roles have included the part of Sandy in The Lighthouse by Peter Maxwell Davies, The Madwoman in Curlew River by Benjamin Britten, and the auctioneer in The Rake’s Progress by Igor Stravinsky. |
