The German baritone, Martin Berner, studied at the Musikhochschulen in Hamburg and Mannheim with Professor W. Löser and Professor Rudolf Piernay. He is a scholarship holder of the Richard Wagner Association and winner of the singing competition in Berlin, Germany. He completed his training in master-classes at the International Bachakademie in Stuttgart or the Steans Institute for Young Artists at the Ravinia Festival, with instructors such as Irwin Gage, Pierre Vallet, Malcolm Martinů and Rudolf Piernay.
Guest engagements have taken Martin Berner to the Hamburgische Staatsoper, the Oper Köln, and to Bremen, Hannover, Basel, Kassel and Bielefeld. He has collaborated with renowned conductors as Ingo Metzmacher, Stefan Soltesz, Helmuth Rilling, Enrico Dovico and Kirill Petrenko.
From 2005 to 2010, Martin Berner was a permanent ensemble member of the Theater Aachen, where he made his debut and performed many roles, including Marcello, Belcore, Valentin, Papageno, Ford, Onegin, Albert and Danilo. In April 2010 he sang the title role in the opera Maldoror at the Munich Biennale. A world premiere of the composer Philipp Maintz in co-production with the the theater in Aachen and Basel. His great passion is for the opera house and the Lieder and oratorio. Concerts have taken him numeous times to appearances at home and abroad. He was awarded the Schubert prize of the Theater Aachen (Schubert German society).
CD recordings of the Johannes Brahms’ Requiem and the Missa Solemnis by L.v. Beethoven were published with the Aachen Symphony Orchestra conducted by Marcus Bosch. |
