The American mezzo-soprano, Katherine Benfer, studied at Midland High School in Midland, Michigan; Manhattan School of Music in New York City; and Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan.
Katherine Benfer sang at the Aspen Music Festival from 1973 to 1975, where she was a soloist in the Bach Cantata Series and played the First Witch in Dido and Aeneas. She sang with the National tour of the American Vocal Ensemble, and with the Cregg Smith Singers which toured Europe and the USA. She soloed in two recordings with the Cregg Smith Singers on Columbia records. Her opera associations include the Manhattan School of Music Opera Workshop and the Michigan State University Opera Workshop. She played the role of Bertie for 40 performances as his summer replacement in The Club at the Circle in the Square production off-Broadway. She also taught music history and voice at Fairleigh-Dickinson University in Rutherford, New Jersey. From 2000 to 2012, she sang in the Chorus of New York City Opera.
Since 1984, Katherine Benfer works as a real estate broker/salesperson at Hudson Place Realty in Hoboken, New Jersey. She currently lives in Bloomfield, New Jersey. |
