The American contralto, Gaby Vocello Benalil, obtained her Music education degree from University of Brasilia in 1986; her BS degree in Voice from Federal University of Bahia, Brazil in March 2000; her Music degree from the School of Music of Brasilia, Brazil in 2005; and her Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance from the University of New Mexico (UNM) in December 2009. She was a student of Opera with Professor Marilyn Tyler.
Gaby Benalil has won a number of awards in music competitions, including: First place in voice competition, Teatro Nacional, Brasilia, Brazil (1981); First place in voice competition Madrigal of UFBA at University of Bahia (1997); Finalist in voice and classic guitar, Paraiba, Brazil (1997); Finalist in voice competition in Aldo Baldin (2004); First Prize at NATS competition Albuquerque New Mexico (2009). Awards and schilarships include: Award Scholarship at UNM Spring 2007 and Fall 2008; OGS 3% Scholars I (Spring 2007; OGS 3% Scholars I Fall Scholarship 2008; Scott L Jones Music Scholarship Fall 2008; Helene Simson Fine Arts Scholarship (2009).
Gaby Benalil sang at the professional Madrigal - School of Music of Brasilia, Brazil (1990-1992) , and at the professional Madrigal - Federal University of Bahia, Brazil (1996-1999). Hef vocal experience includes: Larina in Eugene Onegin by Tchaikowsky Director Marilyn Tyler (Spring 2007)’ 3rd dame in Magic Flute by W.A.Mozart Director Marilyn Tyler (Fall 2007); Arias for Alto in the Messiah Conductor Bradley Ellingboe (Fall 2007). She also plays Viol Gamba bass, Crumhorn, recorders at Early Music ensemble Director Colleen Sheinberg; sings alto 2 at the Concert Choir Conductor Bradley Ellingboe.
Gaby Benalil has also performers as a player: violin in the orchestra of the School of Music of Brasilia (1980-1990); in cello ensemble at Helene Errera Brasilia (2000-2005); cello for the Chamber orchestra of New Mexico Tech (2006-2008); and Cello for Student Graduate Recital at UNM (2008-2009).
Gaby Benalil taught as a student music theory at University of Brasilia (1987-1989). She later taught at the Music Festival in Uberaba, Minas Gerais, Brasil (July /1989); music theory to Elementary, Middle and High School, Brazil (July 2000-December 2004). |
