The Dutch soprano, Machteld Baumans, studied with Cora Canne Meijer at the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam.
Machteld Baumans repertoire includes W.A. Mozart roles as Papagena and Pamina in Die Zauberflöte, Serpetta in La finta giardiniera and Despina in Così fan tutte. Furthermore, she sang parts in operas by Monteverdi: Drusilla and Fortuna in L'incoronazione di Poppea and Amor in Il ritorno d'Ulisse in patria. Her repertoire includes Nanetta in Falstaff, Gilda in Rigoletto and the title role in Puccini's Suor Angelica.
Machteld Baumans has appeared in productions of De Nederlandse Opera (including in Sydney), Opera Zuid and the Onafhankelijk Toneel. She made radio and television recordings for the Dutch, Belgian and British broadcasting, including a recording of Purcell's Dido and Aeneas and W.A. Mozart's Schauspieldirektor. She was a guest at the Holland Festival of Early Music, The Early Music Festival and the San Antonio Bachtage in Berlin. At the concert she sang with ensembles as the Amsterdam Bachsolisten and the Combattimento Consort Amsterdam. With the string quartet Archibudelli she sang Boccherini's Stabat Mater in Rome, Paris and Milan. She worked together with Hartmut Haenchen (orchestral Lieder of Zemlinsky), Christian Zacharias (concert arias of W.A. Mozart) and the Dutch Chamber Orchestra. With the Radio Chamber Orchestra she sang under the baton of Kenneth Montgomery in Giuditta by Alessandro Scarlatti. In addition she appeared with the Residentie Orkest Den Haag and the Orkest van het Oosten (Fuji liederen by Jacques Reuland) conducted by Jaap van Zweden.
With the Nationale Reisopera Machteld Baumans sang Amore in Martin y Soler L’arbore di Diana, conducted by Arnold Östman and also performed during the Dresdener Musik Festspiele, Euridice in Gluck's Orfeo ed Euridice, Tina in Flight by Jonathan Dove, Marzeline in Fidelio, Junon in Platée by Jean-Philippe Rameau, Ännchen in Der Freischütz and Ann Trulove in The Rake's Progress by Igor Stravinsky. |
