The Italian violinist, Cinzia Barbagelata, studied at Milan Conservatorio with O. Scilla, and also attended master-classes with P. Roczek at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, and with P. Vernikov.
Soloist, chamber musician, and for a number of years conductor/violinist of the Aglàia Ensemble specializing in 18th century violin and chamber repertoire, Cinzia Barbegelata’s work is hallmarked by a true passion for different compositional languages, comprising a range of musical styles, from early to 20th century music, in a quest for everything that can shed new light on musical interpretation.
Cinzia Barbagelata has been concentrating particularly on Baroque violin for many years, performing research and analytical work on original, unpublished music, and using period instruments. Her important productions in this area have been well received by international criticism. She is also noted for her solo performances in the area of contemporary music, and for her work with electronic music centres. She has played premiere performances of important works for solo violin, and many composers have dedicated pieces of music to her. In her concert performances, she has been highlighted in important festivals both in Italy and abroad (Europe, Israel, America and Australia).
Cinzia Barbagelata records for the music publisher Stradivarius, with whom she has released urtext works by Bonporti, Galuppi, Sammartini and Mozart. For the magazine Amadeus she recorded Estro Armonico by Antonio Vivaldi (first solo violinist, 1991) and, as soloist and conductor of her own ensemble, La Stravaganza also by A. Vivaldi (1995), the Art of Fugue (BWV 1080) by J.S. Bach (1999), for which she also supervised instrumentation, and other chamber productions.She has recorded with RAI, BBC, Radio France, Belgian Radio, Israeli Radio, Nuova Era, Concerto, and Tactus.
Cinzia Barbagelata has held master-courses and seminars on compositions for solo violin within the Italian contemporary repertoire at Melbourne University, Australia, and on Italian Baroque repertoire at the Universidad Javeriana, Bogotà, Colombia, and at the Accademia Europea di Musica, Erba. She taught Baroque violin at the Scuola di Alto Perfezionamento in Saluzzo. She is head professor of violin at Milan’s Conservatorio G. Verdi, where she also teaches courses of early music.
