The Italian pianist, Maurizio Baglini, studied with Giampiero Semeraro at the Conservatory La Spezia and with Piero Rattalino and Lazar Berman at the Piano Accademy "Incontri col Maestro" in Imola, receiving his diploma in 1999. At a very young age he was a prize-winner in major International Piano Competions - Busoni in Bolzano, Chopin in Warsaw, William Kapell in Maryland. In 1999, at only 24 years of age, he won the grand prize at the World Music Piano Master di Montecarlo with the unanimous consensus of the jury.
Maurizio Baglini regularly performs in prestigious worldwide Festivals - La Roque d' Anthéron in Loeckenhaus, Yokohama Piano Festival , Australian Chamber Music Festival, Benedetti Michelangeli Festival in Bergamo & Brescia. He he is regularly invited by the most important international musical institutions as a soloist or as part of chamber orchestras: Salle Gaveau in Paris, the Kennedy Center in Washington, the Louvre Auditorium, and the Gasteig in Munich. He has been soloist with famous orchestras such as the Philarmonique de Montecarlo, Symphonic de Barcelon y de catalana, Zürich Kammer Orchestra, Pomeriggi Musicali of Milan, and Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, and has collaborated with conductors such as Emmanuel Krivine, Armin Jordan, Howard Griffiths, Donato Renzetti, and Maximiano Valdes.
A versatile interpreter, Maurizio Baglini has a vast repertory that ranges from William Byrd to contemporary music, with strong roots in the music of Frédéric Chopin, in addition to having an abiding interest in the musical technique and language of the harpischord and the fortepiano. As an avid chamber music performer, he focuses a large part of his activity to new partnerships and musical literature, with a particular attention to contemporary music.

Maurizio Baglini has a significant discography that includes two versions of the 27 Studies by F. Chopin, both played with original instrumens from the 19th century, and with a modern piano (Phoneix Classics). In 2005 he started to record the complete works for piano by Bach-Busoni, edited by Tudor (completed in 2008). He released a dvd for Kashima Productions of the Concerto No. 1, Op. 11 by F. Chopin with New Japan Philarmonic Orchestra. In 2006, Azio Corghi dedicated his Suite d' après cinq chansons d' élite to the duo of Silvia Chiesa - Maurizio Baglini. It was recorded immediately by the two musicians for the record label Concerto and published by BMG Ricordi. In December 2007 he was the only Italian pianist to be invited to the 100-year celebration of the Salle Gaveau in Paris, an evening that was broadcast on the prestigious channel France 3. There were, among others, such notable participants as Martha Argerich, Nelson Freire, and Jean Marc Luisada.
On May 9, 2008, Maurizio Baglini was the main guest on the television program Toute la Musique qu' ils aiment, presented by Alain Duault on the France 3 station, the most prestigious French television channel dedicated to music. Recently he has published the entire body of work for piano by Rolf Urs Ringger (Tudor) which includes five unreleased works. In 2008 he performed L.v. Beethoven's Ninth Symphony at the Musée d'Orsay of Paris, playing the arrangement for piano by Franz Liszt and accompanied by the Radio France Chorus. The program was directed by Matthias Brauer and broadcast live on the France Musique channel. In June 2008 he published the works of Camille Saint-Saëns for cello and piano along with Silvia Chiesa for the prestigious musical review Amadeus. In March 2009, in Pordenone and Trieste, performed the first-ever Concert for Piano and Orchestra by the dearly departed composer Giuseppe Molinari with the Friuli Venezia Giulia Orchestra.
Maurizio Baglini, along with his friend Stefan Giesen, conceived and created the first edition of the Amiata Piano Festival in 2005, with the intention of creating an atmosphere in which as many people as possible could be a part of this cultural experience in one of the loveliest and most inspiring regions of Italy, the Alta Maremma. Thanks to the success of the first two editions of the festival and the desire to expand the reaches of the festival's message, the structure was changed in 2007 to allow for the creation of different musical events all linked together under the same banner of the Amiata Piano Festival. This structural change allowed Maurizio Baglini to create the Dionysus Festival of Music, Art, and Multimedia, a production that takes place in the impressive environment of the Castle and the Cantina of Collemassari and which intends to place an international spotlight on this particularly beautiful and interesting region of Italy. |
