The Dutch conductor and composer, Arjan van Baest, studied at the Cobbenhagen College. He studied church organ and music theory privately with Henk de Croon. At the Fontys Conservatorium Tilburg he studied composition with Kees Schoonenbeek, choral conducting with Louis Buskens and orchestral conducting with Arjan Tien, graduating in 2008. He holds a PhD. in Literature from Tilburg University (2000).
Arjan van Baest does not like to specialize. His compositions and the varied repertoires of his choirs reflect his broad musical interest.
Arjan van Baest is Artistic Director of Gemengd Koor Cantiqua since 2004; Musical Director of Muzemento since 2008; Artistic Director/Conductor of Koor en orkest Stichting Bachcantates Tiburg since 2010; Artistic Director of FBach Koor en Orkest since 2011. He teaches research skills at the conservatories of Tilburg and Maastricht. For the Magogo chamber orchestra he writes all program notes. With composer Evert van Merode he founded Stichting Muziek Nu, a platform for the development and performance of new music. |
