Founded by the cellist Sarah Butcher in 2014 in response to a request from choirs, Bach Camerata is a Baroque chamber orchestra featuring some of the finest specialist players on the UK classical music scene. Sparked by a collaboration with the Cambridge chamber choir Ishirini, performances of J.S. Bach's St John Passion BWV 245 proved an enduring feature of its first concerts. A working partnership developed with David Temple and Crouch End Festival Chorus, the joint forces giving a performance of J.S. Bach's Mass in B minor (BWV 232) in January 2016 at the Barbican.
Bach Camerata is led by Alison Bury, a key figure in UK period performance, who for many years led the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and English Baroque Soloists. She has appeared as soloist in performances and recordings with the Academy of Ancient Music, Raglan Baroque Players, and Taverner Players. In addition to her work with her own ensembles, Sarah Butcher is an active cellist covering a wide range of music; she has performed with the Glyndebourne Touring Opera Orchestra, Garsington Opera Orchestra, London Mozart Players, and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and other period groups |
