The Baldwin Wallace Motet Choir (= BWMC) is the premiere choral ensemble at Baldwin-Wallace College. The BWMC was established in 1974 by Stuart Raleigh, Director of Choral Activities at Baldwin-Wallace College, specifically to perform at the Baldwin-Wallace College Bach Festival, but has also developed as a separate entity. Stuart Raleigh directed the BWMC until his retiremnet from the College in 2008. The current Director of the BWMC is Dr. Dirk Garner, Director of Choral Studies at the College. Selected through rigorous annual auditions and under his direction, the ensemble maintains the highest standard of choral performance. For the annual Baldwin-Wallace College Bach Festival, the BWMC sings Bach motets, seminal works in the choral repertoire, in addition to cantatas and the major works of J.S. Bach.
The BWMC tours regularly with a repertoire focused on music from the 20th and 21st centuries. In 2010 the BWMC will four cities (Akron, Columbus, Pittsburgh and Buffalo) to present works by J.S. Bach, Igor Stravinsky, Josquin des Prez, Ola Gjeilo, Paul Crabtree and more. Additional performances of the programme will be given in the Cleveland area (Berea or Chagrin Falls). |
