Barockorchester L'Arco (Baroque Orchestra) |
Founded: 1992 - Hannover, Germany |
Barockorchester L'Arco (Baroque Orchestra L'Arco = BOLA), the bow or arch, is the name of this 12-to-20-strong ensemble directed by its choir-master and conductor Christoph Heidemann, and it is a good indication of its repertory. After all, it is the bow which yields the multi-facetted sound of the stringed instruments, revealing all the "emotions and passions" of the music to the listener. Bringing the rich sound world of the 17th and 18th centuries to life under such a musical arch has always been the orchestra's main aim.
Mastery of period instruments coupled with knowledge of historic performance practice is the basis for the musicians' ability to develop their wide-ranging skills. Their concerts continually provide them with the opportunity to confront lesser-known works and seldom-performed compositions. In the past, these have included symphonies and suites by Christoph Graupner and Johann Friedrich Fasch and the revival of the Brockes Passion by Reinhard Keiser.
From its foundation in 1992 by graduates of the Hannover College of Music and Drama, the L’Arcoi ensemble quickly made a name for itself, aided in no small measure by appearances at festivals such as the Lower Saxony Music Festival and the Chamber Music Podium in Braunschweig and joint ventures with the Hannover Boys' Choir conducted by Heinz Hennig.
Radio recordings and CD releases underline what one critic wrote about the ensemble: "L’Arco's music-making is a firework display of dynamic scope with brilliant bowing technique and the musicians know just how to ignite their audience with the same enthusiasm." |
