The Bach and Handel Chorale is a community singing group based in Jim Thorpe, founded in 1984 by Randall Douglas Perry to celebrate the 300th birthdays of J.S. Bach & George Frideric Handel. The are dedicated to bringing the music of J.S. Bach, G.F. Handel and other masters to the greater North-eastern Pennsylvania area and beyond. In 1984 they gave their first performance, and in 1988 gave their first performance of J.S. Bach's Magnificat (BWV 243).
The Bach and Handel Chorale promise to bring their audience interesting and engaging concerts during the 2016-2017 season. They will be performing our two Jim Thorpe Christmas Concerts at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church on Race Street, in Jim Thorpe, as well as two repeat concerts at other locations. Their Passion/Easter Concert will be renamed “Spring Concert” and will see the chorale joined by the Festival Orchestra, performing some of J.S. Bach's secular cantata choruses, and the opening and closing choruses of some great sacred J.S. Bach's cantatas. They will also have music by G.F. Handel and some piano and orchestra works of modern composers. St. Mark’s Episcopal Church on Race Street, in Jim Thorpe, will be the venue for this very moving performance. St. Mark’s, on the National Register of Historic Buildings, is always a wonderful place to make music. Their Benefit concert will be held with all proceeds from the concert being donated to the Dimmick Memorial Library in Jim Thorpe.
