The Mexican pianist and piano teacher, Victor Avila, obtained his Diploma in Piano Performance from Escuela Superior de Música - Instituto Sinaloense de Cultura in Culiacán, Mexico (2011); his Bachelor of Music degree with honors from Universidad Veracruzana in Veracruz, Mexico (2017); and his Master of Music from University of Ottawa (2020), under the tutelage of David Jalbert. He had piano classes with worldwide renowned musicians such as Sara Davis Buechner, André Laplante, Martin Karlicek, Jan Bratoz, Nick Deutsch, Pamela Viktoria Pyle, Oscar Tarrago, Jordi Savall, Enrike Solini, Leopoldo Erice, Edgar Dorantes. His main tutors were Rocio Gonzales, Jorge Covarubias and David Jalbert. He has been awarded with Zoya Solod Piano Award (2018), Mitchell Sharp Commemorative Bursary (2019), Silver Medalist at Mateo Oliva International Chamber Music Competition (2015), and Finalist at Guadalajara Piano Competition (2015).
Victor Avila is an active performer, piano teacher, and piano collaborator who achieved a wide piano repertoire, playing from Baroque to contemporary music in Canada, USA and Mexico. As a performer, he played at different International Festivals like Orford Music Academy, Adamant Music, NUNTEMPA 20th and 21st Music Festival, Sinaloa Summer Festival, 7 Décadas de Luz. He also was the pianist répétiteur of University of Ottawa CALIXA-Lavallée Choir (2018-2019), piano collaborative at University of Ottawa Vocal Repertoire Class (2019-2020), Coatepec Esperanza Azteca Choir (2013), University of Guadalajara Flute Course (2015), and pianist of Xalapa Philharmonic Orchestra (2015-2017).
Victor Avila has his Piano Studio in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. His teaching experience ranges from early music education such as 5-year-old to seniors. Victor focuses on teaching classical piano and at all levels granting his students a wide understanding of music while letting them enjoy piano at their own level. |
