Ave Sol Choir (Choir)

Founded: 1969 - Latvia

The Ave Sol Choir was founded in 1969 with two essential aims - to develop contemporary choral musical techniques and to broaden the repertoire of Latvian choral music in various directions. The members of the choir are professionally trained musicians whose mastery and abilities have gained recognition not only in Latvia but internationally as well.

Over the years Ave Sol has popularised the Latvian choral tradition through countless concert tours and festivals. The choir has been awarded many prizes in international choir competitions in Italy (Areco, 1974), Estonia (Tallinn, 1974) Hungary (Debrecen, 1982), Austria (Spital an der Drau, 1983), Spain (Tolosa, 1990) and Germany (Marktoberdorf, 1991).

Ave Sol has performed throughout Europ'e as well as in Israel, the USA, Canada, Brazil, Argentina, Japan, the Philippines, Taiwanand Singapore. The choir has given showcases and master-classes at IFCM symposia in the USA (Oregon, 1991), Belgium (Namur, 1992) and the Netherlands (Rotterdam, 1999). Since 1989 Ave Sol has organised and been the leading choir at the biennial intemational choir festival "Rîga Dimd" (Riga Resounds). Thanks to the fruitful co-operation with the Israel Camerata Orchestra Jerusalem and its conductor Avner Biron, Ave Sol has toured Israel on several occasions. Ave Sol has worked very successfully with various conductors including Saulius Sondeckis (Lithuania), Dmitri Kitaenko (Russia) and Helmuth Rilling (Germany).

Alongside its extensive a-cappella repertoire, Ave Sol can boast of many 1arge scale vocal instrumental works by Antonio Vivaldi, J.S. Bach, George Frideric Handel, Haydn, W.A. Mozart, L.v. Beethoven, Berlioz and others.
