The English soprano, Charlotte Ashley, graduated with Bachelor of Music degree (with Honors) from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, where she had studied singing and oboe.
Charlotte Ashley enjoys a varied career as both a soloist and Consort singer specialising in Baroque and Renaissance repertoire. She is a member of the Monteverdi Choir (Director: Sir John Eliot Gardiner), The Tallis Scholars (Director: Peter Phillips) and The Marian Consort (Director: Rory McCleery). Other ensemble work includes performances with Tenebrae (Director: Nigel Short), Choir of the Enlightenment, Philharmonia Voices and Collegium Vocale Gent (Director: Philippe Herreweghe). Forthcoming choral projects in 2017 include tours of the USA and Japan with The Tallis Scholars, and an international tour of Monteverdi's L'Orfeo with John Eliot Gardiner to celebrate the 450th anniversary of Monteverdi's birth.
As a soloist Charlotte Ashley has performed throughout the UK and Europe. Recent highlights include European tours of J.S. Bach's Magnificat (BWV 243) and St Matthew Passion (BWV 244) with the Monteverdi Choir, J.S. Bach's St John Passion (BWV 245) with Salisbury Cathedral Choir and the period instrument orchestra Charivari Agreable Simfonie, George Frideric Handel's Dixit Dominus at the Southern Cathedral's Festival, Purcell's Dido and Aeneas and Come Ye Sons of Art and G.F. Handel's Zadok the Priest with Wantage Choral Society under the direction of Paul Burke, Johannes Brahms' Requiem in Salisbury Cathedral, and Felix Mendelssohn's Sommernachtstraum with the London Symphony Orchestra. Charlotte's voice was recently featured on the soundtrack of the BBC series 'Close to the Enemy' singing G.F. Handel's Eternal Source of Light Divine. Also a keen recitalist, Charlotte recently sang a programme inspired by birds and nature with violinist, Davina Clarke as part of the Barnes Music Festival at the London Wetlands Centre.
Charlotte Ashley also performs with the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC), most recently in their acclaimed production of Richard II alongside David Tennant at the Brooklyn Arts Theatre in New York, the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford-Upon-Avon and the Barbican Theatre in London. Other recent stage performance include Written on the Heart and Henry V with the RSC and Gluck's Orphée et Euridice at the Royal Opera House with the Monteverdi Choir.
