The German trumpeter, Rita Arkenau-Sanden, received her first trumpet lessons at the Musikschule in Bergisch-Gladbach with Ursula Pillmann. She began her studies in instrumental pedagogy in 1989 at the Musikhochschule in Köln with Professor Stanko Selak. After graduating in 1993, she continued her studies at the Folkwang-Musikhochschule in Essen in the subject of orchestral music with Professor Wolfgang Pohle (final artistic examination in 1995). This was followed by artistic training with Professor Günther Beetz at the Staatlichen Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Mannheim.
In 1997, Rita Arkenau was appointed principal trumpeter with the Lüneburger Symphonikern. From 1997 to 1998 she was also a member of the Jungen Deutschen Philharmonie and played on the anniversary tour through Europe and Russia under the conductor Rudolf Barshai.
