The Armenian pianis, Nareh Arghamanyan (Armenian: Նարե Արղամանյան), began her piano studies at the age of 5. Three years later, she entered the Tchaikovsky Music School for Talented Children in Yerevan, where she studied with Alexander Gurgenov. In 2004, she was the youngest student to be admitted to the University for Music and Performing Arts Vienna, where she studied with Heinz Medjimorec, and chamber music with Avedis Kouyoumdjian. Currently she continues her studies with Arie Vardi in Hannover and with Kouyoumdjian in Vienna.
Nareh Arghamanyan is a laureate of many international piano competitions including the First Prize Winner at the 2008 Montreal International Music Competition,. Her other awards: International Frédéric Chopin Piano Competition in Yugoslavia 1st prize (1997); International Competition "Little Prince" for young talents in Zaporozhye, Ukraine 1st prize (1998); Armenian Legacy, First National piano competition Armenia 1st prize (1999); Gina Bachauer International Junior Piano Competition USA 2nd prize (2000, at the age of 11; predicted by critics to have “ a major international career” and praised for her virtuosity and sense of artistry); Seiler Piano Competition, Kitzingen|Germany 4th prize (2003); Dr. Josef Dichler competition Austria 1st prize (2005); won the one-year scholarship award from the Herbert Von Karajan Foundation Vienna (2006); José Roca International piano competition, Valencia. 2nd prize (2007); Piano Campus International piano competition, Pontoise. 1st prize (2007); Montreal International Musical Competition 1st prize (2008); “Sparkasse Wortersee” Competition in Austria 1st prize (2009).
Highly acclaimed for her unique style, colorful tone and dazzling virtuosity, Nareh Arghamanyan is one of the promising talents of her generation. She has given debuts with orchestras such as the Wiener Symphoniker, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Tonhalleorchester Zürich, HR-Sinfonieorchester Frankfurt, NDR Sinfonieorchester Hamburg, Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin, Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg, and Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo, RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra, Hong Kong Sinfonietta, Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and Utah Symphony Orchestra. She has performed at Wigmore Hall, Philharmonie Berlin, Laieszhalle Hamburg, Herkulessaal Munich, Konzerthaus Vienna, Musikverein Vienna, Piano Festival Lucerne, Lincoln Center New York, Kimmel Center Philadelphia, and Gardner Museum Boston.
Nareh Arghamanyan is a regular guest at international festivals such as the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival, Festival de Lanaudiere, Marlboro Festival, and Singapore Piano Festival. Conductors she works with include Alain Altinoglu, John Axelrod, Stefan Blunier, Kevin John Edusel, Howard Griffiths, Carl St. Clair, Sir Neville Marriner, Michael Sanderling, Kazuki Yamada, Xian Zhang, Jean-Marie Zeitouni, and Christoph Poppen.
Nareh Arghamanyan has appeared at many festivals internationally including the Colmar Festival at the invitation of violinist Vladimir Spivakov, and a recital at Palais d’Athenée in Geneva. In 2006 she appeared on the Chamber Music San Francisco Music Series under the auspices of the Guzik Foundation, and in 2004 was soloist with the Mont Blanc Symphony France in the Grieg Piano Concerto. Recitals in 2003 brought her to New York City, Los Angeles, Boston, and Washington DC, and in 2002, highlight engagements included those with the Moscow Chamber Orchestra, in Moscow, and with the National Chamber Orchestra of Armenia in Yerevan and Berlin.
The 2009-2010 season saw Nareh Arghamanyan making an impressive New York debut at the Frick collection as well as at San Francisco Performances, resulting in a reinvitation to their “Young Master Series” in 2011. Further recitals include Miami, Detroit, Minneapolis, Kansas City, San Juan and Fresno. In concert she performed Camille Saint-Saëns' Piano Concerto No. 5 with the Winnipeg Symphony, Camille Saint-Saëns' Piano Concerto No. 2 and W.A. Mozart's double concerto with I Musici de Montreal, and L.v. Beethoven “Emperor” Concerto with the McGill Chamber Orchestra. She has appeared with the Mont Blanc Symphony France, Moscow Chamber Orchestra, Armenian National Philharmonic Orchestra, and National Chamber Orchestra of Armenia. Further afield, she performed with the Orchestre Metropolitan under Yannick Nézet-Séguin, the Wiener Symphoniker at the Bregenz Festival 2011 under Xian Zhang as well as the Vancouver Symphony with James Gaffigan. Recital highlights include her debut at the Portland International Piano Series as well as the Singapore International Piano Festival. This past summer (2010), she attended the prestigious Marlboro Festival, where she would return in 2011, as well as at Tanglewood music festival, Domaine Forget Quebec, the Festival International de Lanaudière and at the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
Following a highly successful debut at the Goldener Saal of Vienna’s prestigious Musikverein with the Radio-Symphonieorchester Vienna, Nareh Arghamanyan makes her Swedish debut in the 2015-2016 season playing Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 3 with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra. She also makes her debut with the MDR Sinfonieorchester Leipzig playing Khachaturian’s Piano Concerto, and embarks on a tour to the Brucknerfest in Linz as well as the Musikverein in Vienna as part of the 100 years of the Armenian genocide commemoration program Roots of Revival. Elsewhere she appears with the Stuttgarter Philharmoniker on tour in Italy, and returns to the Münchner Symphoniker following her successful debut there last season. In addition, she appears with the Armenian National Philharmonic Orchestra in Yerevan performing Sergei Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No. 3 in a concert marking the re-opening of the Aram Khachaturian Concert Hall in Yerevan. She will give numerous recitals in France and Germany and in the USA will give two recitals on Portland’s International Piano Series. She appears in Boston’s Jordan Hall with the Boston Modern Orchestra Project in a concert commemorating the centennial of the Armenian Genocide.
In 2011 Arghamanyan signed an exclusive recording contract with Pentatone, releasing a CD of solo works by S. Rachmaninov and a disc featuring the Franz Liszt's two piano concertos, recorded with the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin and Alain Altinoglu (2012). She also recorded S. Rachmaninov's second piano sonata and F. Liszt's B minor piano sonata for Analekta. Her latest recording, released in November 2014, includes the Piano Concerto by Khachaturian as well as Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto . 3.
